The Advantages of Having a Blog

Why do some create blogs and why do others read them? This is actually a ten points question since its answer covers the very working principle behind the entire phenomenon. First of all, we are not far from the truth when saying that bloggers are very much like journalists or columnists, and that the material we find on blogs is very often much more interesting than that in the media thanks to the personal touch writers include in their articles. Furthermore we cannot ignore the interactive dimension of blogs, which is probably the greatest advantage in itself: comment boxes for instant responses, links to documented materials, videos and pictures turn the blog into a magic puzzle.

Blogging is trendy, no comment to that! Not only is it popular with people of all ages but it also makes one feel like blending in. You get an idea of what people appreciate in your writing, you get to comment and actually live some events of public interest, and you have the chance to speak up your mind. Everything you post on the blog, every piece of original material is achieved and easily accessible when you need it; many would-be writers actually take blogging very seriously since they are offered the opportunity of getting things into print without the intermediary of another publication.

Many blogs offer the advantage of a debate area where you’ll find all sorts of opinions: don’t get angry if the feed-back is not always the one you’ve hoped for, points of view are personal and they should not hurt feelings. It’s within your power to take things like that. Then, we should also mention the popularity and promotion advantages that are specific to a blog; just like niches, small business blogs create the proper environment for the easy reach of targeted Internet users.

Many business owners have discovered that blogs are the perfect way to regularly keep in touch with customers and even employees, since these web pages function as online journals that are very frequently updated. The advantage that blogs clearly have above other sites is that they express something peculiar in the most active or dynamic way whereas the other “classic” web sites are definitely static. Without any doubt the voice of the writer is the element that makes a blog unique and interesting at the same time!

    Hi Nona,

How are things? I definitely agree with you the importance on blogs in business. I have been trying to explain to quite a few people the difference between a blogging format and a normal website and there a lot of people that just don’t get it!

I think blogging is an awesome way to create a really great online community while learning what we are doing online. It is awesome how we all learn from each other and all share our knowledge, plus yes we are learning how to write and how to communicate with our audience.

I must admit I post a lot more regularly now than I did a year ago. I think we get more confident in what we write as we discover that there are people that actually do read our blogs and learn a great deal from them.

I hope everything has been going well since the seminar. Brett is doing another one day seminar on the 23rd of October. Not sure if I am going yet.

    Have Fun & Stay Focused.

    Hi Jacinta

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I thought about you after the seminar and wondered how you are going on your online endeavours.

Yes blogging is a great tool to communicate directly to targeted audience, and you can get response almost instantly. The blogger and bloggee unwittingly contribute to each others growth through the information they have shared. In this sense the world has shrunk to become a small global village with lightning fast communication.

I personally like blogging and am over the moon with this trend, cheers!

I definitely agree with many of the points you made above about why blogging is so relevant in today’s world. In the past, only the prominent (or the affluent and powerful) were able to publish their works or thoughts – and only after a long period of time were they able to spread their message. Blogs allow for near-instant publishing and the opportunity for everyone to hear or be heard, which definitely impacts the way society thinks and acts. The flow of information is no longer channeled through a few controlled mediums but is now gushing through the internet at all hours, in all languages and all forms like a broken fire-hydrant.

I do think, though, that blogging has its drawbacks. Anyone can say anything – whether they want to back it up with evidence or not is purely subjective. I don’t want to repeat the mantra “don’t believe everything you read!” but it does still need to be kept in mind that there are going to be bloggers who comment or write about issues/topics they are not qualified to speak about but try to present their opinions as fact. There certainly is the danger of misinformation when there aren’t any gatekeepers.

Also, for bloggers themselves, what they write might eventually bite them in the back, without them knowing. It’s entirely possibly for a blogger to maybe link a few articles about atheism on their blog, or casually mention it and before they know it, they are rejected from a potential job offer since the big boss googled them and decided he didn’t like godless heathens.

Just my two cents about this thought-provoking article.

Thanks for your comments. Indeed writing/blogging is very powerful since time immemorial. Bloggers should be responsible for what they are writing about as they have in their hands the potential to change other peoples’ lives. On the other hand of the coin, as a reader I would always exercise my own judgment to weigh if the blog content is valid or is it just another piece of nonsense.
    Cheers!
    Nona
