In the past, only the prominent (or the affluent and powerful) were able to publish their works or thoughts - and only after a long period of time were they able to spread their message. Blogs allow for near-instant publishing and the opportunity for everyone to hear or be heard, which definitely impacts the way society thinks and acts. The flow of information is no longer channeled through a few controlled mediums but is now gushing through the internet at all hours, in all languages and all forms like a broken fire-hydrant. I do think, though, that blogging has its drawbacks. Anyone can say anything - whether they want to back it up with evidence or not is purely subjective. I don't want to repeat the mantra "don't believe everything you read!" but it does still need to be kept in mind that there are going to be bloggers who comment or write about issues/topics they are not qualified to speak about but try to present their opinions as fact. There certainly is the danger of misinformation when there aren't any gatekeepers. Also, for bloggers themselves, what they write might eventually bite them in the back, without them knowing. It's entirely possibly for a blogger to maybe link a few articles about atheism on their blog, or casually mention it and before they know it, they are rejected from a potential job offer since the big boss googled them and decided he didn't like godless heathens. Yes blogging is a great tool to communicate directly to targeted audience, and you can get response almost instantly. The blogger and bloggee unwittingly contribute to each others growth through the information they have shared. I have been trying to explain to quite a few people the difference between a blogging format and a normal website and there a lot of people that just don't get it! :roll: I think blogging is an awesome way to create a really great online community while learning what we are doing online. It is awesome how we all learn from each other and all share our knowledge, plus yes we are learning how to write and how to communicate with our audience. I must admit I post a lot more regularly now than I did a year ago. I think we get more confident in what we write as we discover that there are people that actually do read our blogs and learn a great deal from them.
