The Joy of Selling on eBay

In July 2005 I accidentally discovered eBay when my children persuaded me to buy compact discs (CDs) of music for them. They convinced me that CDs are cheaper on eBay than in the music retail shops. Unwittingly I opened an account on eBay and little did I know this massive selling platform will be an integral tool in my online business when I decided to quit the corporate world in January 2007.
Since then I have been selling mostly vintage home wares on eBay and other used stuff lying around my home and no longer being used.
Some of the things I sold which received fantastic comments from my buyers are:
- Huge collection of DVDs for children
- 1960s original framed oil painting of lovely roses
- 1950’s vintage framed print roses by Kruger
- 1940s exquisitely made crocheted tablecloth
- 1930s art deco framed wall mirror
I could not even believe it, but when they emailed me it became clearer many people are looking for the things which you may no longer require and are surplus for your needs. It make sense to sell those things on eBay so other people can benefit and you gain space in your abode and money in your pocket, a definite win-win situation.
A young mother emailed to tell me the children’s DVDs she won from my auctions were all in excellent condition and her young daughter was thrilled. She could not have afford to buy them if bought brand new.
One buyer said, she loved the antique art deco mirror and had been bidding previously for a similar item, but always lose to someone else. I have experienced this myself so many times. Some people will place extremely high maximum bid, and the bid snipers will bid at the last minute making the final price even higher.
A buyer emailed to say the original painting of roses was already hanging proudly on her living room and that it complemented the other painting she had for years.
Another customer said they live in the remote area where there are no shops, let alone thrift shops or other specialty stores to buy these rare vintage items I am selling.
Another buyer was ecstatic to win the 1940s crocheted tablecloth because it reminded her of the tablecloth they have used when she was a child growing in a small town.
All these sentiments from people inspire me to continue selling on eBay realizing I am bringing them happiness in finding the things they want.
Had I stopped selling on eBay because of the various challenges I had faced, I would not have experienced and met these wonderful people on the net.
For as long as there are people who want to buy on eBay this seller will continue to sell knowing it is a satisfying activity bringing joy not only to me but also to many other people across the world.
